Mercedes 190SL Roadster 1962 entered into the October 31st Classic Car Auction.

1961 Mercedes Benz 190SL Roadster. This is a most beautiful example, it is the best that I have ever seen and it really must be viewed to appreciate it.
Last taxed in September 1978, the then owner became ill and died in the early 90’s. She was passed onto the step-son, who spent an absolute fortune renovating her, all the bills are in the history file. The renovation was carried out by Terry Van’der’zee in Dorset, a well respected classic restorer. She then went back into storage until the current vendor purchased her in 2011. He was not happy with the finish of the paint work so he had the car stripped to the bare metal and had the interior completely upholstered in the most beautiful red leather and the result you can see before you. The total mileage we believe from new is 88,623 included in the history files are all the original books and Mercedes service book which records the speedometer change. The V5 records 1 former keeper. She has just had a service and new MOT and there were no advisories.

The 190SL together with its big brother the 300SL was launched at the New York International Motor Show in 1954 (this is the first time that a new Mercedes was launched outside Germany) They made a stunning debut . Designed by Karl Wilfret and Walter Hacket. Their neat sporty stunning looks was an immediate success. Powered by a 4 cylinder single ohc fed by twin Solex 44 pnh carburettors producing approximately 120 bhp giving them a top speed of over 106 miles per hour. All round independent suspension give this car superb handling.
