Lot No: 65
Year Make Model Mileage SOLD FOR
1976 Triumph Stag Auto 70,761 (Not Warranted) £15,750.00 + buyers premium

Description:

This Stag has had 6 owners and has a massive history file click here. The original owner was Jeffrey Greenwood, a senior partner in a London solicitors’ practice, who kept the car for nearly 30 years, and retained invoices for huge amounts of work carried out mainly by Hart Racing Services. The third owner, Roy Townend, had a major mechanical rebuild to the car by Abinger Hammer in 2013, including a £12000 engine rebuild, a rebuilt braking system and work on the differential and gearbox: the final bill was £16440.37. In addition to the mechanical work, the seats have been retrimmed and the hood has been replaced.
While the car is technically unrestored, it has had vast amounts of work over the years. The paintwork is excellent, and in the original colour (British Racing Green), although it’s clearly not original. There has been much work to the body over the years, some with supporting invoices. The interior is very good – excellent seats, slightly worn carpets, slight damage to the centre console surround where the handbrake hits it, and slight damage to the 2 pieces of wood on the console. The hard top is excellent externally, with some stained trim internally and a small (2cm) patched cut in the headlining. The current MoT runs to 15th November 2019 – it’s now MoT exempt of course.
When Abinger Hammer were doing the mechanical rebuild in 2013 they fitted a second hand speedometer – reading 58800 – which is recorded on the invoice. The current recorded mileage is 70606 – the true mileage is around 82000, but is impossible to pin down accurately. This shows as a mileage discrepancy on HPI etc. The car has the original Passport to Service with stamps for PDI, 6000, 12000, 15000, and 18000 miles.

Auctioneers Notes: This is a real cracker, possibly the most comprehensive history file I have seen in a long time.  The vendor has asked me to point out that the hood is in excellent condition.  This car was supplied by H.R. Owen of London to a Mr. J.M. Greenwood, all the owners are listed in the file along with the original plastic-covered book pack containing hand books, service book and “Leyland Super Cover”  What a pleasure to offer this car by auction, she is on site and may be viewed by appointment.
