Porsche 928 S Auto 1982

Description:

The vendor and his wife found this solid 928S in an underground storage in Auckland New Zealand where she had sat for over 15 years and immediately acquired her. They spent at least 8,000 pounds on recommissioning making sure that she was properly ready for road use before driving her around New Zealand during December 2016.  Mileage at purchase was just over 92.000 miles and she presents as a solid, original, rust-free example of the 928S with original documentation.  They dry stored her in Wellington, New Zealand before shipping her back to the UK in mid-2018.

Recommissioning included all mandatory service items such as timing belt, fluids, brakes, dampers, oil lines, brake lines, tyres and cosmetic restoration of front grille/chin spoiler.  She has covered less than 1,000 miles since re-commissioning.

Being a totally rust-free and an original vehicle, they decided to bring her back to the UK to add to their small collection of Porsches.  She has no modifications and the only significant defect that they have not seen to is her air-conditioner – they diagnosed it to be a compressor seal and elected not to repair it.  She was MoT’d, returned to her original UK registration number and rolled her into managed storage in Cornwall alongside their 930 and RuF SCR.

This 928S was an original UK Delivery in London during 1982 (Charles Ivey) and then was shipped directly to New Zealand in 1986 on approximately 20,000 miles.  With all of her OPC stamps from her UK life in the service schedule, she benefited from OPC Dealer Care under Giltraps of Auckland as well as specialist care under Powerhaus of Wellington.  She comes with all invoices for recommissioning in New Zealand as well as further maintenance in the UK over the past 12 months.  The vendor has also retained all of her statutory mileage verifications throughout her 32 years in New Zealand along with ownership history and this will be presented with the extensive history file that they have assembled.  Original stereo and cassettes remain with her.

Since arriving in the UK, she has been subject to further comprehensive maintenance as per schedule and MOT.  Along with her original registration with the DVLA the vendor also negotiated retention of her New Zealand registration plates which are with the vehicle.

The vehicle has its original unused spare wheel as well as a complete tool set which is very rare.

She presents as a solid driver vehicle with plenty of options.  She is ready for her next carer and will enable an enthusiast an affordable entry into V8 Porsche ownership without having to be burdened with significant expense.  The vendor states he would like to see her into a good home where she could be used regularly and bring joy to her next owner.

Auctioneers Notes: This is a very fine example of a 928S entered into our sale in October by a private collector who has his collections spread over 3 countries, New Zealand, Australia and the UK.  These cars are definitely undervalued against the iconic 911. They were marketed as a “luxury grand tourer”.  They were quick 0 – 62 in just over 5 seconds and handle superbly helped by the 50 – 50 weight distribution.  This car needs to be seen, available to view from now by appointment.
