Lot No: 47
Year Make Model Mileage SOLD FOR
1954 Morris Minor Series ii 37,000 (Warranted) £3294 + buyers premium

Description:

Black, with red interior, and a sticker under the bonnet which says ‘Standard Spec’. It’s pretty much as original, except for consumables such as tyres (very low mileage Toyo radials) and exhaust. There is no evidence of rust, either in the chassis or the bodywork, except for some light surface rust due, we suspect, to the car having been off the road in dry store for the last 5 years. The paintwork is in pretty good condition with a good sheen and patina, albeit with a various ‘touched in’ chips. The interior is in excellent condition, with the exception of one surface fault on the squab of the drivers seat; the boot is generally clean and tidy, with an unused spare wheel. There is a small period tool kit, complete with a starting handle! The engine bay is a bit grimy with a little evidence of coolant having sprayed out when a top hose split. A small amount of engine oil has leaked from the rocker cover. The fuel pump, Dynamo and Control box were replaced when it was last on the (road for my daughters wedding in 2010). There is evidence that the speedometer was replaced at about 29000 m which would make the total about 37000m which the vendor has warranted.
The vendor states the engine runs smoothly and quietly; the gearbox is quiet, and the gear lever (given its length and period ‘vagueness’) operates easily; the foot and handbrake work fine; the clutch pedal is occasionally sticky but there is no evidence of clutch slip.
The vendor bought the car in 1988, and prior to that it had been stored in the garage of a dear old lady who had not moved it since her husband had died about 18 years earlier. She had been offered £50 by a ‘dealer, the vendor worked with her nephew, the only surviving relative, who was a Police Inspector. Together they established a fair price that they were all satisfied with!
Since the vendors ownership, the car has always been DSUO, garaged, fettled, and cared for! It has spent much more time unused than used.
We think that gives a fair representation of what is a very lovely little car. It’s hoped that the next owner will care for it well! It’s not concours of course, but is a pretty fair condition. Included in the history file are various Morris Maintenance service booklets from new, plus various invoices from work done to the car since the vendors purchase in 1988.
As a matter of interest the vendor was offered £3000 for the number plate a few years ago, but decided to keep the originality and integrity of the car intact.

Auctioneers notes: Where can you find a 2 owner split screen which has such lovely patina?
