1968 Morris Mini Cooper 1293 S Abingdon Special Tuning. This very original and outstanding Mk2 Cooper S was rebuilt by the Special Tuning department at Abingdon (next to the competition department responsible for the Monte Carlo winning Works cars). Due to the owners close friendship with John Cooper he worked closely with John and the team at Special Tuning to create this fantastic fast road Cooper S. It has the Special Tuning twin carburettors. exhaust manifold and a balanced. Tuned engine. The car was then kept by the same owner for 39 years. but at the age of 94 he decided it needed a new owner. It has covered around 57000 miles, approximately 6000 I n the last 22 years and it runs beautifully. He has always driven it as part of his fleet of 5 minis. It has never been off the road and has been driven at least 10 dry miles every 2 weeks so to keep it in perfect running order. The body is unwelded and original. The engine offers a car that runs very smoothly and is well behaved in traffic but equally very fast when the road allows. The instant acceleration is addictive and the way the car drives and stops is all credit to the Abingdon Special Tuning team. This is understood to be the last mini to come out of the department before it closed. This is a very special and collectable Cooper S in stunning original condition. It would also enable you to join the Ex-Works and Competition Cooper Register which is part of the Mini Cooper Register.

The car was kept by the same owner for 39 years, but at the age of 94 he decided it needed a new owner. Since 2017, with its new owner the car has covered less than 100 miles and spends all its time in an indoor carcoon. Although the intention was never to part company a family situation means the car will find a new owner who will enjoy its provenance and character as much as its previous owners.

Auctioneers Notes: What an honour to offer this outstanding Abingdon tuned 1293 cc Cooper S – this is a very rare car. If you open the bonnet you will notice that the engine is painted black, that is done to all Coopers when they went back to the special tuning department at Abingdon. She is truly quite remarkable and so original and she has only covered 57,000 miles from new and the ownership including the vendor is 3. In the history file you will find old V5’s etc. This stunning original car may be viewed strictly by appointment
