Lot No: 36
Year Make Model Mileage SOLD FOR
1986 Jaguar XJS C 3.6 71,000 (Not Warranted) £7150.00 + buyers premium

Description:

This cherished big cat has been part of the vendor’s family since 2004 and has been regularly maintained by an independent specialist in Hertfordshire known locally has Sam Jaguar who worked for Jaguar racing and is currently in a similar role for McLaren. The current speedometer reading is 71,000 however the vendor understands that the speedo was changed prior to his late father’s ownership and the true mileage is circa 100,000.
The car, throughout the last 15 years, was not the vendor’s father’s every day drive and was kept in a dry brick constructed garage and it’s general condition reflects this. Research indicates that less than 1000 of the straight six version of this car were made and that fewer than 100 still exist. To add to this rarity is the unusual headlight configuration. The vendor’s enquiries indicate that this particular vehicle was originally designed for export to the USA and the headlight adaption was required to conform with that country’s legislation. However the cars never made it across the pond and were put on sale in the UK.
The targa roof is in good condition for its age and has benefited from an element of refurbishment in recent years.
C372JAT would make a great first classic or an ideal basis for an enthusiast looking for an opportunity to do a full restoration. The next MOT is due in July 2020 and it has recently had 2 new tyres, a new battery, work to the body as well as having the windscreen removed and resealed. Comes with a relatively comprehensive service history since 2004 with old MOTs.

Auctioneers Notes: This is a super example of a Targa Top XJSC and if you have read the vendor’s notes where he states that she would be a sound restoration project, I think he is being a little harsh and I think that anybody who sees her will agree with me – she is in near tip top condition.  This Jaguar was built before the Ford Motor Company took over the marque and being a 3.6 she is very good on fuel, 25 – 30 plus MPG is possible.  The 3.6 litre is high spec having DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder produces a healthy grunt of over 220 HP and I like the 5-speed Getrag 265 gear box.  The history file, since the vendor’s late father bought her in 2004 is excellent and very well presented.  I feel this car is FANTASTIC value for money.  She is on site and may be viewed by appointment.
