BMW 2002 Touring 1973

According to the DVLA only 13 of these rare cars are left in usable condition in the UK. Only this one is  a one owner, low mileage car with remarkable history and provenance. Presented in Malaga with tan perforated vinyl.  Purchased new by a RAF officer through NAAFI British forces in Germany, the car was collected from the Munich factory in the spring of 1973 and used during the vendor’s military service until returning to England in 1975; hence the ‘N’ registration number.

The stack of paperwork includes one of the most  comprehensive records we have ever seen of every detail of this car’s history. A fascinating paper trail documents the life story of the car commencing pre-purchase with  contemporary newspaper ads and brochures  then correspondence with BMW Concessionaires GB then purchase order, bill of sale from Germany and receipts for the extras including steel sliding sun roof, front headrests, extra outside mirror, inertia seat belts and laminated windscreen.  From the fuel ration booklets allocated to RAF officers right through to a hand written log of maintenance befitting a RAF man there is also naturally every invoice and old MOT. BMW main dealers looked after the car till 1988 after which it was entrusted to BMW 2002 specialists Jaymic for maintenance. Equally absorbing is following the last owner’s career progress from Squadron Leader to Wing Commander to Group Captain before he ended up as an Attaché at the British Embassy in Moscow.Garaged from new, the car is in largely original condition and has a nice patina.  Recently it has had a minor restoration addressing the advisories on the current MOT. Invoices show the work done includes replacing all the jacking points and refurbishment of the fuel tank and road wheels as well as improving the cosmetics. Mechanically it drives as one would expect of a low mileage car that has been maintained to such a high standard.
