1971 | Austin | Mini 1275 Cooper S | 70,800 (Not Warranted) | £17,600.00 + buyers premium | |
Description:This excellent example of a Cooper S Mark III was purchased from a P Wright from Hartlepool in October/’97 She came with a full history, from new, including the original bill of sale and original receipt. This comprehensive history has been maintained by the present owner, the vendor. I cannot emphasise how comprehensive this history file is. One folder is nearly 4” thick and then there is another one a good 2” thick crammed with articles, bills, receipts, even including the original Leyland special tuning for all S Models, a number of technical drawings etc. you will find in the back of the larger folder. In 1997 the car had the following modifications carried out: the alternator replaced the dynamo and the hydrostatic suspension was replaced with dry suspension, which is a preferred option. You will find a DVD of the restoration of this car carried out by Jim Stokes, trading as J.S.W.L. Ltd of Waterlooville who is a renowned restorer of classic cars at a cost of £7,835.25. The file also shows that she has had 5 previous owners and it appears that all of them kept her records up-to-date. She even comes with the original Leyland key and key fob – this lovely car may be viewed by appointment. Auctioneers Notes The iconic Mini Cooper 1275 S turned the other rally competitors on their heads in the hands of Paddy Hopkirk and others winning the Monte Carlo Rally no less than 4 times. Coper S’s were made between 1964 and 1967 for the Mark I and the Mark II and III were made between ’67 and ’71. Very few Mark III’s were made, approximately 1500 and this car, which we present to you, is one of the last 50 ever made. As stated elsewhere, the vendor has owned this cracking car since ’97 and this actual car starred in Quinton Wilson’s TV Program ‘ Car’s the Star ‘ She comes with her own dust cover embossed with ‘Cooper’. The only fault, if you call it that’ the front seats need recovering, but that is not a great expense. I do not think that we have ever seen a history file as comprehensive as this. I hope the new owner will continue this.
