CTO976K is a rare late edition model with the mgc spec  “black top” engine in the very attractive and desirable blackberry livery with a light grey ambler interior.  This mgc spec engine was only fitted to the last of the line / run out cars and offered enhanced performance giving 145 bhp.  This is reflected in this car’s responsive performance.  Other improvements for this model included cabin changes and security upgrades.

Essentially a “one family” owned car with documented history including a recent family testimonial and an organised history file which retains previous mot certificates, maintenance invoices, a workshop manual and early car club magazines. A driver’s handbook is also included. 2 full sets of keys with an original supplying Austin dealer key fob.  (Lathams Austin/Jaguar of Loughborough)

This car was purchased “nearly new” by Mr James Mills. Mr Mills  (senior) retained the car until his death in 1994, whereupon his grandson , also named  James mills and resident at the same address, inherited the car. James Mills (junior) recommissioned the Austin in 1996 and enjoyed driving her for a short time. Historic mot certificates also date from this time. However, the car has remained off road and dry stored since 1998 despite his initial wish to use the car more often. As a result of all this, the car appears highly original.

The vendor, a local BMC/BL enthusiast purchased and recommissioned the car in 2020 for his own personal use, a recent mot and filed invoices record this work and the car is now running well showing good oil pressure and noticeable lively responsiveness.  Due to a recent house move the vendor has decided to reduce his collection and offer this car for sale.

Auctioneers Notes: 1971 Austin 3 litre these cars in their day were not popular, but now, to come across one, is as rare as hens’ teeth. This one, which is in our auction in January, is no show queen but she presents very well and is in very good order. The leather and wood of the interior are superb and remember this very late model shares the MGC straight six engine. She comes with the original driver’s manual/handbook plus workshop manual and the vendor has compiled an A4 Folder with history and invoices etc. It is worth noting that only 9992 cars were produced and she is no 9907. This cracking car was dry stored between ’97/98 to 2020 when she was recommissioned. All bills and invoices are in the file. Come and view this great car, strictly by appointment
