1933 Austin 16/6 Pick-up ££6800 + buyers premium

Description:

Description from The Vendor:

The car was sold from new by Simmings garage in 1933. It was then purchased again in 1940 by Newmans garage. After this it was used as a taxi, however, the back end became damaged in icy weather and therefore was turned into a recovery vehicle for Newmans of which it still contains the original ambulance dolly for towing cars in the back.

Auctioneer’s notes:

The vendor has owned this amazing vehicle since April ’11 and you can see from the vendor’s description, she was not always a pick-up.  Let us start at the rear of the pick-up, she has the most comprehensive collection of period tools, quite a staggering amount and they are all very securely displayed as he found that when going to shows, some went missing!  The original Austin 16/6 seats are in the cockpit but under the bonnet the old side valve engine has been removed and a BMC 4 cy 1800 ccs engine and gear box was fitted.  I noticed, when examining the pick-up that the front shock absorbers are now telescopic and the steering is rack and pinion.  I am not certain whether the brakes have been upgraded and the owner could not throw any light on it, but she has drums all round.  She is a fantastic find, a very good asset to any business connected with the motor trade using her as a mobile advertising board. In the file there are a few invoices from the sixties and, importantly. the original log book, plus a photocopy dated 1933 which shows all the owners from then until 1940 when Newman’s Garage bought it, plus old MOT’s and tax discs going back to 1984.  She is offered for sale in our Summer Auction without reserve.  May be viewed, strictly by appointment.
