Description:Armstrong Siddeley were quick off the blocks to resume production after WWll, with a model range named after famous WWll aircraft. The Lancaster was their flagship model, with bespoke four door coachwork by Mulliner, on the all new 16hp chassis, incorporating a six cylinder 1991cc overhead valve engine with hydraulic tappets. In choosing the model name Armstrong Siddeley wish to emphasise their highly successful aviation as well as maritime and motoring heritage. Fastidiously maintained by the previous owner, GDG384 has gleaming black cellulose painted coachwork which is emphasised with twin gold coach lines. The Art Deco inspired interior is sumptuously appointed in brown leather to the front seats and door cards and fawn Bedford Cord to the rear. Further refinements include the use of highly polished wood for the dashboard and door cappings, leather bound wool carpets, lambswool over rugs in the rear passenger compartment, sunshine roof and Wilson pre-select gearbox, the whole of which can be seen in Penn Bradly’s book, Armstrong Siddeley- The Post War Cars (page 52). this matching numbers Lanchester has a fascinating and comprehensive history, from the original bill of sale when the car was supplied by Regent Motors of Cheltenham on 28th June 1947 for £1275.2s.4d to its first owner Mr R H B Nicholls. It would remain in his and his son’s possession until 2004 when it was acquired by the last owner. Officials of the Armstrong Siddeley Owners Club believe it to be one of, if not the best example, of a Lancaster available. All of the restoration was carried with the intention of preserving originality, but discreet repeating indicators and an electric auxiliary cooling fan have been added for safety and reliability. This is a most magnificent car which has covered a believed 71,000 miles from new. |
