1957 MG Magnette

This fantastic car has the original handbook & purchase invoice. Total cost including wing mirrors £1,086. 10. 9p. It also has underseal guarantee. Best of all, it has Caffyns service record and manufacturers warranty. Now the fun starts. This car has been highly modified, with modifications made to the engine, gearbox, rear axle, front suspension and the body and interior.

ENGINE :-

Built using the MG Abingdon Special Tuning Guide, to Stage 6 giving approx 125 BHP, and based on an MGB 1800 5 main bearing unit.

Bored to +.060 with new Hepolite pistons. Reground crank with new bearings. Standard flywheel and clutch. Balanced.

Kent Cams Supersport 718 camshaft with new followers, double valve springs and caps. Solid rocker spacers and new duplex timing gear set.

New Accuspark electronic competition distrbutor and matched coil.

Polished and ported big valve cylinder head. 1.69 inlet and 1.44 exhaust. Hidural bronze valve guides. Hardened exhaust valve seats.

New twin 1″ 3/4 carbs on ported manifold, with ram pipes.

Long branch tubular exhaust manifold and freeflow system with stainless steel silencer.

New alternator and water pump.

GEARBOX :-

MGB with overdrive and modified and balanced Magnette propshaft.

REAR AXLE :-

Standard Magnette with all new brakes and adjustable AVO telescopic shock absorbers. All polybushed.

Brake balance adjuster.

FRONT SUSPENSION :-

New Magnette heavy duty springs and AVO adjustable telescopic shock absorbers.  MGB hubs and disc brakes (brakes all new). Fabricated lower arms and rear tie bars, adjustable for camber and castor.

Rose jointed and polybushed throughout. New competition front anti roll bar. Stainless steel flexi hoses.

BODY and INTERIOR :-

Over the past 7 years the bodyshell bas undergone a full bare metal restoration with new sills, floors, door and wing repair panels. Finished in Twilight Grey.

A full roll cage has been fitted, with extensions down to the front bulkhead and chassis rails, and also inside the sill box sections, giving an extremely strong and rigid shell.

Painted and rustproofed underneath and under the wings. No nasty underseal anywhere !!

New stainless steel front and rear bumpers.

Original wood dash, door cappings and rope pulls.

FIA approved bucket seats with full harness belts. Motalita steering wheel with quick release boss.

The car drives and handles exceptionally well, and although would require some finishing touches, is eminently suited to The Masters Historic Racing series, classic

rallying or hill climb events.
